Tower Placement Basics That Fix Most Losing Runs

Tower Placement Basics That Fix Most Losing Runs

March 4, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

Most players who tell me tower defence is too hard are losing for the same reason: they build in the wrong spots. Damage numbers matter less than how long an enemy stays inside your range, and that comes down to placement.

The single best habit is building at corners. A tower sitting on the inside of a bend covers two stretches of the path at once, roughly doubling the time it can fire on each enemy. Before you upgrade anything, ask whether moving it to a corner would help more.

Layering matters too. Put your slow or freeze towers early on the path and your heavy damage right after, so enemies crawl straight into your strongest guns. Spreading damage evenly across the whole map usually just spreads it thin.

Finally, leave a couple of build spots empty on your first run of a level. You rarely know where the pressure will come from until a wave shows you, and having budget in reserve to react beats a fully committed layout that can't adapt.
